Doing a Conducted emission measurement with a CurrentProbe

Post by tjsc »

When I look in the menu for conducted emission I only see that there is a single band test to do Conducted Emission tests with a current probe. Is it also possible to do a CE test with a current probe in multiband?

Yes. That is correct. At this time there is no separate test for multiband. With the tools that are available it is possible to set this up and do multiband tests with the probe if needed.

We can use the Conducted Emission test as it essentially does the same, only the CE test assumes a LISN. If we can make a driver for a LISN so that the test thinks there is a LISN in the test but is actually reading the probe we have achieved our goal and have a multiband test setup for CE with a current probe.

Let's first make a driver for the probe to function as a LISN in the test:

Go to "Configuration/configuration" and open "Device Drivers"
Go to "LISN"
Add "Configurable LISN"

Rename the LISN driver to a appropriate name like: CurrentProbe/LISN

Set the frequency range.
The rest of the settings can be left blank.

Close and save the configuration.

Before we move on lets make sure tat we add our correction file that is normally used with the current probe driver.

Go to your current probe and check which file has been used for correction

Now go back to our LISN driver we just made and add the correction file there. This is very important as the correction is needed for the probe to measure correctly.

Now our driver is set up correctly. Let's now set up the testsite whith which we can do the tests.

Add a new testsite:

Add your amplifier, analyser/receiver and Current Probe/LISN driver. As the Current probe is now using a LISN driver you need to add it as a LISN.
Your test site should look something like this:

Close and save the test site.

Now we have setup the driver and made a new test site where it is added with all the other devices needed for this test.
The setup is now done and we can make a test.

Make a new EUT and go to Tests. Select Conducted Emission -> Multiband
This will open the test set-up window. As you can see, the settings are the same as a normal CE test.
It is important that you turn on at least one of the lines, the easiest is to just check Nutral.
